ABOUT

Orion Fredericks - Passage of Awakening / Portal

ORION FREDERICKS

Co-Founder

Orion Fredericks was first inspired by a variety of materials while attending the University of Alfred in New York. This inspiration led to producing bodies of work at Pillchuck Glass School in Washington, where he worked and continued to hone his craft. Fredericks then became the first studio manager and volunteer coordinator at The Crucible, where he helped to bring to life the vision of industrial education for the community in Oakland, California.

While continuing to teach at the Crucible, he worked as a performance fire sculptor with the group THERM, where he further explored “the voice of the flame” by night. By day, he was exploring it’s counter-element of water through monumental fountains for civic and private installation. He has continued to further collaborate with other industrial artists and has been creating his own series of work for over 20 years. He’s has shown at various venues all over the United States — small and large gathering events, music events, private showings, and commissioned civic installations — since 1999.

BOENOBO ZJO

Co-Founder

Boenobo’s entertainment and tech-marketing career combo lifted off at about the same time in the early 90s. While working at Silicon Graphics, he founded the band Chub which subsequently did the song and dance with Capitol Records at the turn of the century. When that ran its course, he started the band Gooferman — the acclaimed all-klown electro funk rock band — while returning to his childhood roots to resuscitate The Klown and integrate into the San Francisco indie circus scene. Meanwhile, his other career flipped a 4+ year stint with Avid Technology (formerly Digidesign – creators of Pro Tools), followed by contracts with several major advertising firms and the subsequent founding of his own creative-services shop, The National Revue.

Coat-tailing on Gooferman’s popularity and trajectory, Boenobo founded Circus Metropolus, home to the The Klown, the Klown Korps, the Sisters of Honk, the Klown Kops, ZjitZjo, Jolligood Seduction Company, and the Trashkan Marchink Band. He, wrote, directed, and co-starred in the rock opera Roccopura; built, managed, and traveled several West Coast touring circus and music offensives; and became intimately involved to this day with Vau de Vire Society as a performer, DJ, music director, marketing director, and special ops klown. On the other side of things, he concurrently migrated to Epsilon as a Senior Marketing Copywriter and Associate Creative Director, then to Contrast DesignWorks before migrating to his current contract with Snap/Snapchat as Lead SMB Copywriter.

On a production level, Boenobo’s occupied co-production roles across countless SF Bay events including LoveFest/LovEvolution, Sea of Dreams, How Weird Street Faire, Superhero Street Fair, Masquerotica, The Armory, How Weird Street Fair, Superhero Street Fair, and various Burning Man exploits. Nationally, he’s performed in music and/or circus capacities at the likes of Electric Daisy Carnival, Bumbershoot, Vegoose, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, Lightning In A Bottle, Symbiosis Gathering, Superbowl XLII, LoveFest, Fleet Week SF, Coney Island, Drai’s Las Vegas, and Burning Man. He co-founded, co-produced and co-residented two internationally renowned immersive bombshells out of San Francisco: Bohemian Carnival, an indie circus and music monthly that ran 10+ years; and Trapeze Worldwide, a touring electro-swing and burlesque showcase and dance party that ran 7 years. Simultaneously, he’s undertaken 14 tours of duty at Burning Man, and is the creator and co-founder of the Red Nose District circus camp out there. In 2021, he moved to Las Vegas and has since performed at Area15 and several other non-Strip venues while developing a gargantuan social experience project with large-scale sculpture artist and event producer Orion Fredericks, in conjunction with a new deep-immersion musical theater adventure called Space Champs.
